Com os poucos donativos arrecadados até ao momento, demos início à construção da casa destinada à Locádia e aos seus dois filhos menores, oferecendo-lhes um raio de esperança. A conclusão desta obra representará uma verdadeira transformação nas suas vidas.

Neste momento, os trabalhos estão suspensos por falta de fundos. No entanto, acredito firmemente na generosidade de pessoas de bom coração, que se preocupam com o bem-estar dos outros. Tenho plena confiança de que, juntos, alcançaremos este objetivo: proporcionar um futuro mais digno e seguro a esta família — especialmente às crianças.

With the few donations collected so far, we began the construction of a house for Locádia and her two young children, offering them a ray of hope. The completion of this project will mark a true turning point in their lives.

At the moment, the work is on hold due to a lack of funds. However, I firmly believe in the generosity of kind-hearted people who care about the well-being of others. I am confident that, together, we will achieve this goal: to provide a more dignified and secure future for this family — especially for the children.

Há vidas que nos tocam profundamente. Esta é a história de uma jovem viúva na cidade da Beira, em Moçambique, que, sozinha, luta diariamente para cuidar dos seus dois filhos pequenos. Vivem numa casa sem condições mínimas de habitabilidade — paredes frágeis, chão de terra, sem acesso digno a saneamento. E, apesar de tudo, metade do que ganha vai para a renda dessa mesma casa.

Mas há esperança. E essa esperança és tu.

Já conseguimos dar o primeiro passo: as fundações de uma nova casa já estão construídas.

Some lives touch us deeply. This is the story of a young widow in the city of Beira, Mozambique, who is bravely fighting every day to care for her two small children on her own. They live in a house without even the most basic living conditions — fragile walls, dirt floors, and no proper sanitation. And yet, half of her meagre income goes towards the rent of this same house.

But there is hope. And that hope is you.

We’ve already taken the first step: the foundations of a new home have been laid.

PROJECTO DA CASA SOLIDÁIRA/SOLIDARITY HOUSE PROJECT

Em Moçambique, a construção de habitação própria, desde que de estrutura simples, não exige grande burocracia. É suficiente obter uma licença camarária e contar com profissionais experientes na área, mesmo que não possuam formação académica formal. Com base nesta realidade, e embora não seja arquiteto, elaborei o projeto da casa destinada à família Locádia, conforme ilustrado nas imagens que apresento a seguir:

In Mozambique, the construction of private homes, as long as they are of simple structure, does not require much bureaucracy. It is enough to obtain a municipal license and rely on experienced professionals in the field, even if they do not have formal academic qualifications. Based on this reality, and although I am not an architect, I designed the house intended for the Locádia family, as illustrated in the images I present below:

NOVA CAMPANHA SOLIDÁRIA / NEW CHARITY CAMPAIGN

Conforme referi na primeira publicação, para além das campanhas destinadas à angariação de fundos para a construção de casas solidárias, tenho realizado — com a colaboração de um amigo residente em Inglaterra e o valioso apoio de vários doadores — outras campanhas focadas sobretudo no apoio a crianças que vivem em condições extremamente precárias. São, na maioria dos casos, crianças a viver apenas com as mães abandonadas pelos companheiros e forçadas a criá-las sozinhas. Foi esse o trabalho que desenvolvemos no Natal de 2023 e novamente no Natal de 2024.

Além destas iniciativas, desde 2020 tenho enviado mensalmente diversos apoios financeiros para suprir necessidades pontuais de várias famílias que me solicitam ajuda. Esta ação tem sido possível graças ao apoio contínuo do mesmo amigo residente em Inglaterra e de outro, a viver na Área Metropolitana de Lisboa.

Contudo, o meu principal objetivo neste momento é a construção de mais uma casa, cuja obra já foi iniciada. Esta construção está a ser financiada com os donativos angariados até agora através do meu perfil no Facebook. No entanto, os valores conseguidos permitiram apenas a execução das fundações.

A nova casa destina-se à senhora Locádia, uma jovem viúva com dois filhos menores a seu cargo. A família vive em condições de grande vulnerabilidade numa habitação arrendada que consome quase todo o seu parco rendimento. Durante a estação das chuvas, a casa é frequentemente invadida por águas, obrigando Locádia e os filhos a dormirem sobre uma mesa. Como se pode observar nas imagens abaixo, a atual habitação não oferece qualquer condição de segurança ou higiene. É essa realidade que pretendo transformar, e por isso apelo à solidariedade de todos os que se sensibilizam com o sofrimento dos outros.

As I mentioned in the first post, in addition to the campaigns aimed at raising funds for the construction of solidarity homes, I have also carried out — with the collaboration of a friend living in England and the valuable support of several donors — other initiatives focused primarily on supporting children living in extremely precarious conditions. In most cases, these are children living only with their mothers, who have been abandoned by their partners and are forced to raise them alone. This was the work we carried out at Christmas 2023 and again at Christmas 2024.

In addition to these initiatives, since 2020 I have been sending monthly financial support to meet the urgent needs of various families who reach out for help. This ongoing effort has been made possible thanks to the continuous support of the same friend in England and another friend living in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area.

However, my main goal at this moment is to build another house, a project that has already begun. The construction is being financed with the donations raised so far through my Facebook profile. Unfortunately, the funds collected have only been enough to complete the foundations.

This new home is intended for Mrs. Locádia, a young widow with two young children under her care. The family lives in extremely vulnerable conditions in a rented house that consumes almost all of her limited income. During the rainy season, the house is often flooded, forcing Locádia and her children to sleep on top of a table. As can be seen in the images below, their current home offers no minimum conditions of safety or hygiene. It is this situation I aim to change, and I therefore appeal to the solidarity of all those who are moved by the suffering of others.

A SEGUNDA CAMPANHA / THE SECOND CAMPAIGN

Além das campanhas para a construção de casas (no momento decorre a campanha para a terceira) tenho enviado diversas ajudas para as mães com filhos pequenos, sobretudo nas épocas de Natal ou por ocasião do Dia Internacional da Criança, e mesmo no início dos anos escolares para aquisição do respectivo material e fardas, mas sempre dependente das doações conseguidas. No entanto, em Maio de 2022 teve início a construção da casa da família Gisela, também mãe de dois filhos menores, sendo o mais velho, na altura da campanha com 14 anos de idade, adotado quando a mãe era também uma menor com essa mesma idade de 14 anos. Na época contei na rede social Facebook a história de luta que foi a vida dela, que despertou muito interesse nos meus seguidores, e como resultado consegui muito mais doações que na primeira campanha. A casa construída foi muito melhor e maior que a primeira, como se pode ver nas imagens que se seguem.

In addition to the campaigns to build houses (the campaign for the third one is currently underway), I have been sending various forms of support to mothers with young children, especially during Christmas or on International Children’s Day, and even at the beginning of the school year to help with the purchase of school supplies and uniforms—always depending on the donations received. However, in May 2022, construction began on the house for Gisela's family. She is also a mother of two young children, the eldest being 14 years old at the time of the campaign, adopted when Gisela herself was also just 14 years old. At the time, I shared her life story—a story of struggle—on the social network Facebook, which drew great interest from my followers. As a result, I received far more donations than in the first campaign. The house built was much better and larger than the first, as can be seen in the images that follow.

SOBRE O PROJETO/ABOUT THE PROJECT

Chamo-me ORLANDO RODRIGUES, sou moçambicano a residir em Portugal desde 1987. No entanto, em 2012 fui para a Beira, Moçambique, onde vivi até Novembro de 2019. Nesses quase oito anos de permanência no meu país, tive a oportunidade de ver as condições precárias de vida de muitas pessoas, sobretudo jovens mães abandonadas pelos companheiros, tendo de sobreviverem e cuidarem dos filhos sem o apoio destes nem do Estado. Assim, quando regressei à Portugal, resolvi dar início no Facebook a  campanhas para a construção de casas para quem jamais terá a possibilidade de ter uma pelos seus próprios meios, visando sobretudo essas mães. A primeira que construí com as doações conseguidas em 2021 foi para a Palmira, mãe de dois filhos menores. Esta casa, modesta porém muito melhor e mais segura que a barraca onde a mesma vivia com os filhos e a mãe,  é a da foto acima. A seguir mostro imagens da mesma a ser construída até a sua entrega, no princípio de 2022.

My name is ORLANDO RODRIGUES, and I am a Mozambican living in Portugal since 1987. However, in 2012 I went to Beira, Mozambique, where I lived until November 2019. During those nearly eight years in my home country, I had the opportunity to witness the precarious living conditions of many people, especially young mothers abandoned by their partners, having to survive and care for their children without support from them or the State. So, when I returned to Portugal, I decided to start campaigns on Facebook to build houses for those who would otherwise never have the means to own one—focusing especially on those mothers. The first house I built with the donations collected in 2021 was for Palmira, a mother of two young children. This house, modest but much better and safer than the shack where she lived with her children and mother, is the one in the photo above. Below, I show images of the house being built up to its completion and delivery at the beginning of 2022.
